If you grew up in India during the 80s and 90s, chances are that you've seen or ridden in a Maruti 800 at some point. This iconic vehicle was not just a car - it represented independence, affordability, and reliability for millions of Indian families. The story behind its success is fascinating, with many twists and turns along the way.

In a country where people are obsessed with big cars, Maruti 800 has managed to carve its own niche. It's not just a car, it's an emotion for millions of Indians. From being the first car of their family to becoming an iconic symbol on Indian roads, Maruti 800 has come a long way since its launch in 1983.

The idea of creating an affordable and fuel efficient car came to the Indian Government in 1970s. A voint venture for the same was made between Suzuki of Japan and Indian Government and the project was named Maruti.

The first version of Maruti 800 had an 800cc engine and was sold at a price of just over Rs.50,000. The car became an instant success with Indian consumers, who appreciated its affordability, fuel efficiency, and ease of maintenance.

Maruti 800 became a cultural icon in India, featuring in movies, TV shows, and songs. It sold more than 2.5 million units in India and several other countries and laid the foundation for Maruti Suzuki's success in the Indian automotive industry.

The production of Maruti 800 finally ended in 2014, after more than 30 years of production. The car was replaced by Maruti Alto, another affordable and fuel-efficient car from Maruti Suzuki
